BCE Homework Policy

TK = We ask that our TK families spend time each night reading to their student. In addition, we will include math explorations each month in the classroom newsletter.


Kinder = In addition to the daily expectation of 15 minutes of reading, or being read to, Kindergarten homework consists of one homework page each week (1 to 4 problems). We may ask families to help their child with basic math skills (counting to 100 and writing numbers, for example) as needed. We send home the Math family letter at the beginning of each unit.


1st grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 20 minutes of reading, 1st grade homework consists of one (front and back, up to 10 questions) math worksheet a week that is relevant to our current math unit. We send home the Math family letter at the beginning of each unit.


2nd grade =  In addition to the daily expectation of 20 minutes of reading, 2nd grade homework consists of Math worksheet(s): 2-5 problems - depending on the standard/unit every week. We send home the Math family letter at the beginning of each unit.


3rd  grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 20 minutes reading, 3rd grade homework consists of two pages of cursive practice and two pages of Math homework. Each worksheet has four problems. Students are only to spend 15 minutes on math, even if they cannot complete it. We send home the Math family letter at the beginning of each unit.


4th grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 25 minutes reading, 4th grade homework consists of one sheet of math each week (with an optional 2nd sheet as needed). Each page has 4-6 problems per week.  We send home the Math family letter at the beginning of each unit.


5th grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 30-40 minutes daily of reading, 5th grade homework consists of 4th grade homework consists of one sheet of math each week (with an optional 2nd sheet as needed). Each page has 4-6 problems per week.  We send home the Math family letter at the beginning of each unit.


TK  through 5th grade students may also at times, bring home unfinished class work that needs to be completed at home and returned to the teacher.
