Dear BCE Families,
Halloween Costumes ~ As Halloween approaches; I know many students are planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes. Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities. Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school. Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes. If you are unsure, please contact your child’s teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.
Halloween Parade ~ On Friday October 29th our students will be participating in an on campus Halloween parade. Due to our current situation, this year’s event will be for our BCE students only. We are asking that no family members or visitors be on campus during this event. Our students have missed a lot over the last 19 months. The only way we can make this happen for them is to keep it open to students only. Thanks for your support and understanding.
4th Grade Families ~ If you have a 4th grader, you and your family can now get into some of our beautiful California State Parks for free. In partnership with the First Partner’s Office and the Natural Resources Agency, the California State Park Adventure Pass provides free entry for fourth graders and their families at 19 amazing state parks throughout the state. Mountains, deserts, forests, rivers … the choice of where to visit is yours. Learn more About the California State Park Adventure Pass.
Best First Fire Drill Ever! ~ While all the classes have individually practiced fire drills, today was the first school-wide fire drill, with alarms. I was so proud of our BCE Bears and how well they lined up, followed the direction of their teacher and walked back calmly and safely back to school when the drill was over.
Field Trips ~ There have been a lot of questions about field trips this year. At this point, we are not able to have or schedule field trips. If regulations and policies around class field trips change, you will be the first to know. We’re all ready to get back to “normal” and luckily we keep taking steps forward in that goal.
Drive for Schools ~ Thank you for supporting our students! Checks, cash and stubs must be returned to the office no later than 8:30 am on Monday.

Using senses to manage anxiety
During this 6 week group, students will learn how to use different types of sensory input to manage the uncomfortable feelings of anxiety and worry. Each week will focus on a different sense, giving students multiple options for application.

Reminder ~ see the link below to sign your student up for weekly Covid screening and/or Covid testing in the case of positive close contact at school. Registration will give permission for both weekly and close contact testing, however if you would like to opt of weekly screening and opt in for close contact testing only, you can email our Health Clerk, Kat Gafford ([email protected]) and let her know your preference (Be sure to include your student’s name, grade and teacher.) Registration before exposure allows us to respond quickly to close contact exposures and support the health and safety of all our students.
Parents are able to opt out of weekly screenings, but opt into exposure testing only by emailing [email protected]. After you register, please send Ms. Gafford an email stating you would like to opt your student out of the weekly screening, but keep them in the exposure only screenings. Be sure to include your student’s name, grade and teacher.

BCE PARENTS CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:
Welcome to the BCE Parents Club section of the weekly school e-newsletter! Here you will find important dates, upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. We are looking forward to a year of fun, getting to know new family and friends and of course FUNdraising!
BCE Parents Club meeting summary: The 2021-2022 budget will be voted on at the next meeting. If you need a copy to view in advance please reach out to [email protected], Subject: Budget. We will be implementing an online form to track donations of goods for tax purposes. Family Dinner Night benefiting the 4th grade will be River Dogs on October 27th from 5PM to 8 PM. We are going to be adding a new partner in our shopping fundraisers. Renee’s Garden sells seeds in Felton, CA. 20% of sales will be donated to BCE. The Book Fair will be online, details to follow. Please sign up for the first Holiday Drive 2021 meeting and help it be successful, email [email protected], Subject: Holiday Drive. Spiritwear orders are going in, but there is an issue with ordering the masks. Everyone who ordered masks will be contacted. It is National Disability Awareness month. Spotlight on Volunteers Needed
Do you like to google search? Or are you outgoing? The Outreach Fundraising Committee needs volunteers to look for funding opportunities for our school activities and volunteers to enter BCE for those opportunities. This could mean looking for opportunities online, writing emails, or making videos. Reach out to Elizabeth Marzili at [email protected] to volunteer.

Yearbook classroom volunteers still needed for Ms. Nunns and Mr. Koenig to help with the classroom yearbook pages. If you want to help or have any questions email the Chief Yearbook editor at [email protected].
We need your pictures! If you volunteer in the classrooms or are on campus for drop off and pickup, please snap some pics of your student and classmates and upload through the Tree Ring App to have them featured in the yearbook. This will be especially great for Halloween as no parents are allowed on campus for the parade this year.
