Hello BCE Families!
I hope you all had a wonderful summer and were able to spend some quality time with those special kids! BCE is an amazing school and I am looking forward to continuing our work together this year.
Our staff members have been working hard to get things ready for our students and everyone is excited for our first day of school - Tuesday, August 17th. I would like to acknowledge all our staff members who took time out of their summer to enhance your student’s learning experience. Many teachers attended the math professional development training with UCSC, others attended the Santa Cruz County math institute led by SVMI, and several of our teachers were able to participate in the Teachers College Summer Institute for Readers and Writers Workshop. Additionally, many of our staff members used their own time to meet with colleagues to plan and prepare for the new school year.
I want to extend a warm welcome to our new staff members and to thank everyone who has supported them in their transition. We want to welcome Aliana Rosario to our Kindergarten team, as well as Claire Barnett and Molly Cowell to our 1st & 2nd-grade teams, and Wendy Sikes is our new SDC teacher. Additionally, Nathan Gonzalez will be our new upper-grade music teacher and Hilde Largay will be our primary science coach. We are also thrilled to have Leanne Piccolo, Katie Parham, Barb Brown and Layla Hansen join our classified team.
All of our new staff members come to BCE with the experience and personality that will make them a terrific addition to our already strong BCE team!
Just a few reminders:
· Your student will not be assigned a class until their online registration is complete. Currently, we have 85 families that have not started their online registration and 10 families who have started and not completed the registration process. If you have not registered a new student or updated the registration for your returning student, you will not receive an email indicating your student’s teacher.
You should have received a link for the digital registration on May 7. If you did not get the link, please check your SPAM folder for an email from: noreplyregistration@powerschool.com. Please call Alma in the office with any registration questions: 338-6413.
· All Students and staff will be required to wear masks (no gators or bandanas) at all times while they are inside. Health screenings should be done at home before your student arrives at school.
· Classroom assignments should be emailed to you by your student’s teacher no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, August 13th. If this date/time changes, we will let you know.
· School starts Tuesday, August 17th
o ETK, TK, Kinder, 4th and 5th grade start at 8:20
o 1st, 2nd and 3rd start at 8:30
Meals
This year, breakfast and lunch will be available, free of charge to all of our students. Remind your student to raise their hand when the teacher asks them if they are getting school lunch (aka Hot Lunch, lunch from the cafeteria)
Dismissal
o ETK, TK, and K is dismissed at 12:20
o 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are dismissed at 2:44
o 4th and 5th are dismissed at 2:58
o Wednesday, 8/18, will not be an Early Out Day
o Early Out Days will start August 25th
o TK and Kinders will be dismissed at their usual time, 12:20
o 1st – 5th will be dismissed at 1:15. All other Wednesdays with the exception of 11/17 will be Early Out days
Back to School Night
At this time BCE’s Back to School Night is currently scheduled to be in person, at the BCE campus, on Thursday, Aug. 26th. To keep the number of people on campus to a minimum, we will be having 3 sessions this year.
5:00 – 5:30 = ETK, TK, K & 1st grade
5:45 – 6:15 = 2nd and 3rd grades & SDC
6:30 – 7:00 = 4th & 5th grades
Please plan on leaving directly after the teacher presentation. We want to allow the next group an opportunity to park and get to class before their session begins. Additionally, please consider having only one parent/guardian at each child’s classroom presentation. This keeps the classes from getting overcrowded. Please remember that everyone, teachers, students, and parents are required to wear a mask when indoors at school for Back to School Night and every time they’re on campus.

Health and Safety Updates
As you know, the past 17 months have given us a lot of practice being flexible and adaptable. As a district, and as a school, we will do our best to keep you updated as conditions, policies, and practices change.
It’s going to be a great year of learning and growing together. Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!

¡Hola familias de BCE!
¡Espero que todos hayan tenido un verano maravilloso y hayan podido pasar un tiempo de calidad con esos niños especiales! BCE es una escuela increíble y espero continuar nuestro trabajo juntos este año.
Los miembros de nuestro personal han estado trabajando arduamente para preparar las cosas para nuestros estudiantes y todos están emocionados por nuestro primer día de clases, el martes 17 de agosto. Me gustaría agradecer a todos los miembros de nuestro personal que se tomaron un tiempo de su verano para mejorar la experiencia de aprendizaje de su estudiante. Muchos maestros asistieron a la capacitación de desarrollo profesional en matemáticas con UCSC, otros asistieron al instituto de matemáticas del condado de Santa Cruz dirigido por SVMI, y varios de nuestros maestros pudieron participar en el Taller de verano del Instituto de verano para lectores y escritores de Teachers College. Además, muchos de los miembros de nuestro personal utilizaron su propio tiempo para reunirse con colegas para planificar y prepararse para el nuevo año escolar.
Quiero dar una cálida bienvenida a nuestros nuevos miembros del personal y agradecer a todos los que los han apoyado en su transición. Solo algunos recordatorios:
· A su estudiante no se le asignará una clase hasta que se complete su registro en línea. Actualmente, tenemos 85 familias que no han iniciado su registro en línea y 10 familias que han comenzado y no han completado el proceso de registro. Si no ha registrado un nuevo estudiante o actualizado el registro para su estudiante que regresa, no recibirá un correo electrónico indicando el maestro de su estudiante.

Comidas

Noche de Regreso a la Escuela

Por favor planee irse directamente después de la presentación del maestro. Queremos permitirle al siguiente grupo la oportunidad de estacionarse y llegar a clase antes de que comience su sesión. Además, considere tener solo un padre / tutor en la presentación en el aula de cada niño. Esto evita que las clases se llenen de gente. Recuerde que todos, maestros, estudiantes y padres deben usar una máscara cuando estén en el interior de la escuela para la Noche de Regreso a Clases y cada vez que estén en el campus.

Actualizaciones de salud y seguridad
Como saben, los últimos 17 meses nos han dado mucha práctica para ser flexibles y adaptables. Como distrito y como escuela, haremos todo lo posible para mantenerlo actualizado a medida que cambien las condiciones, políticas y prácticas.
Va a ser un gran año de aprendizaje y crecimiento juntos. ¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2021-2022!
