Dear BCE Families,

Attendance ~ As you know, good attendance is critical to your student’s success.  Please read this letter addressing some of the myths of attendance.

Lost and Found ~ Our lost and found pile has reached its maximum capacity!  Please take a look for any items that may belong to your student.  All items not claimed by Friday October 25 will be donated to a local charity.  Thanks to Tanya Castro for putting in so much time to organizing the lost and found and trying to unite students with their lost belongings.

SLV Rotary Club ~ We want to send out a big “THANK YOU!” to our own SLV Rotary Club.  Wednesday was the Rotary Club’s annual presentation of dictionaries to our 4th graders.  The students loved receiving the dictionaries and it was fun to hear the comments from the 5th graders who remembered the day they received their dictionary and are still using them.

Acts of Kindness ~ Our BCE Leadership Team is demonstrating kindness for others as they are helping to facilitate a donation drive for the victims of Hurricane Dorian. Students are encouraged to participate by doing chores for family members and donating their wages to the cause.  There is a donation box located in the office.  Thank you for supporting this important cause and supporting your students as they demonstrate kindness towards others.

Halloween Costumes ~ As Halloween approaches, I know many students are already planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.  If you are unsure, please contact your child’s teacher or the office before purchasing the costume

Kindness Quote of the Week:

“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”

                                                            ~ Mark Twain

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school and being on time every day!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
