Dear BCE Families,
Halloween Parade ~ On Friday October 29th our students will be participating in an on campus Halloween parade. Due to our current situation, this year’s event will be for our BCE students only. We are asking that no family members or visitors be on campus during this event. Our students have missed a lot over the last 19 months. The only way we can make this happen for them is to keep it open to students only. Thanks for your support and understanding.
4th Grade Families ~ If you have a 4th grader, you and your family can now get into some of our beautiful California State Parks for free. In partnership with the First Partner’s Office and the Natural Resources Agency, the California State Park Adventure Pass provides free entry for fourth graders and their families at 19 amazing state parks throughout the state. New Book ~ This week, each class received a new book focused on Integrity. Ruthie and the Not So Teeny Tiny Lie, introduces you to Ruthie who struggles with the hard decision to give back a favorite toy she found or return it to its rightful owner. While I was delivering books, I also had the opportunity recognize a few students in each class that have been demonstrating integrity. Each month, as I deliver the new Integrity books to classes, I will recognize a few more students. By the end of the year all students will have been recognized and will receive (thanks to our wonderful Parent Club) as a token of our appreciation, a bamboo dog tag on a necklace chain.

Among other services, they can provide Parent Education, Counseling and Emergency Preparedness. It’s been a rough year and a half and we can all use some extra support. Reminder ~ see the link below to sign your student up for weekly Covid screening and/or Covid testing in the case of positive close contact at school. Registration will give permission for both weekly and close contact testing, however if you would like to opt of weekly screening and opt in for close contact testing only, you can email our Health Clerk, Kat Gafford ([email protected]) and let her know your preference (Be sure to include your student’s name, grade and teacher.) Registration before exposure allows us to respond quickly to close contact exposures and support the health and safety of all our students.
Parents are able to opt out of weekly screenings, but opt into exposure testing only by emailing [email protected]. After you register, please send Ms. Gafford an email stating you would like to opt your student out of the weekly screening, but keep them in the exposure only screenings. Be sure to include your student’s name, grade and teacher.

Spiritwear: The orders have been submitted and we will let you know when they are ready. No spiritwear orders are ready at this time. I am sorry for the confusion, I missed the confirmation email from a past year which was sent automatically.
Drive for Schools is one of our best fundraisers because 100% of the money we raise goes to BCE! Now is the time to sell tickets. All families are receiving 1 book of tickets ($25 worth). Each ticket is $5 or 6 for $25 (a book’s worth). If you do not want to participate, please return unused books to your child’s classroom or the office as soon as possible. If you want MORE tickets, send an email to Dawn Harker and Jennifer Wildermuth Reyes at [email protected] with Drive for School Tickets as the subject. Please provide the total DOLLAR ($) amount you wish to have and a way to best contact you. If you have a large ticket purchase and want to pay by credit card, please contact us. Anyone who buys a ticket has a chance to win $25,000. There are also ten $1,000 cash prizes, and over 100 other prizes. The drawing will be held at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk at 1pm on Sunday, October 24, 2021; you do not need to be present to win.
How does it work? Tickets sales are from today through October 17th. Spotlight on Volunteers Needed
The BCE Learning Garden is seeking volunteers.
Each classroom has their own individual garden box. Ms. Rosario and Ms. Sikes still need volunteers. We would like to have 1 or more volunteers, for each class, to bring small groups of children to educate and experience the joy of planting, caring for and tasting our own school-grown food. If you are interested in this flexible volunteer position, please reply to [email protected]. Thank You!
Do you like to google search? Or are you outgoing? The Outreach Fundraising Committee needs volunteers to look for funding opportunities for our school activities and volunteers to enter BCE for those opportunities. This could mean looking for opportunities online, writing emails, or making videos. Reach out to Elizabeth Marzili at [email protected] to volunteer.
Yearbook classroom volunteers still needed Ms. Nunns and Mr. Koenig need adult volunteers to help with the yearbook. We also have additional areas of yearbook help needed. This is a great opportunity to get involved as it is one of the most flexible as you can work on it mostly from home at your own leisure. Our Chief Editor, Monica Vega, will conduct 1-2 virtual meetings as we get started and a few others towards the end of the year.

Desfile de Halloween ~ El viernes 29 de octubre nuestros estudiantes participarán en un desfile de Halloween en el campus.
