BCE Homework Policy

TK = We ask that our TK families spend time each night reading to their student and talking about real life math problems as they come up ( i.e. How many plates will we need if everyone in our family gets one? Oh look, one of  the birds flew away, how many are there now?)


Kinder = In addition to the daily expectation of 15 minutes of reading, or being read to, kindergarten homework consists of 20 minutes per week which includes completing their reading log and activities chosen from the monthly homework calendar.


1st grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 20 minutes daily of reading, 1st grade homework consists of 20 minutes,  3 nights per week which may include logging or responding to their reading  and activities chosen from the choice boards to support social and emotional intelligences.


2nd grade =  In addition to the daily expectation of 20 minutes of reading, 2nd grade homework consists of 20 minutes,  3 nights per week which may include conversations, logging or responding to their reading  and additional math and language activities.


3rd  grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 20 minutes reading, 3rd grade homework consists of 20 minutes,  3 nights per week which may include responding to their reading  and activities or working on projects to support additional curriculum such as math and spelling.


4th grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 25 minutes reading, 4th grade homework consists of 25 minutes,  4 nights per week which may include responding to their reading  and activities or work reviewing prior or current math units.


5th grade = In addition to the daily expectation of 30-40 minutes daily of reading, 5th grade homework consists of 25 minutes,  4 nights per week which may include responding to their reading  and activities or work reviewing prior or current math units.


TK  through 5th grade students may also at times, bring home unfinished class work that needs to be completed at home and returned to the teacher.
