January 11, 2019

Dear BCE Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and were able to enjoy lots of quality time with those amazing students of yours.  2019 promises to be an exciting year full of growing, learning and a few surprises along the way!

BINGO ~ Please join me next Friday for Family BINGO Night!  The doors will open at 6:00 and BINGO will start promptly at 6:30 in the MP. There is no charge to play Bingo.  Additionally, there will be pizza and dessert available for purchase.  Proceeds from these food items will support 5th grade Science Camp.  Thank you to our Parent Club for sponsoring this fun event.

Important Safety Concern ~ One of our students and their parent had a close call this morning while in the unmanned crosswalk on Harmon and Laurel Streets (at the playing field side of the campus).  A car came round the Harmon St corner onto Laurel and did not stop at the crosswalk.  Luckily the parent in the crosswalk reacted quickly and ran with her child.  The driver did not slow or stop.  Please, please, please drive slowly and carefully at all times, but especially during the congestion of drop-off and pick-up.

Job Opening ~ SLVUSD is currently hiring for a Senior Custodian at San Lorenzo Valley Elementary (full-time) and a Maintenance Specialist-HVAC (full-time).  We are also looking to hire substitutes (part-time) for Student Nutrition Services.  If you are interested, you can download an application from the District website and submit it to the Human Resources Department at the District Office (325 Marion Ave).  You can also apply online at www.edjoin.org/slvusd.

California School Dashboard ~ The California School Dashboard (http://www.caschooldashboard.org) is an online tool designed to help communities across the state access important information about K–12 schools and districts. The Dashboard features easy-to-read reports on multiple measures of school success. Instead of looking at a single measure (test scores), the Dashboard looks at multiple measures to evaluate a district's and a school's performance. The Dashboard also is based on an improvement model, looking for districts and schools to make improvements, rather than simply comparing them to other districts and schools. Click here for a shortcut to BCE’s Dashboard.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

WAIT, WAIT, DON’T STOP! PLEASE CONTINUE READING TO SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND UPDATES FROM OUR AMAZING BCE PARENT CLUB!

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

You should have received copies of the January calendar as well as important dates for winter/spring 2019. If you did not receive it, or would like an additional copy, they are available in the office.

This time of year is full of events and volunteer opportunities starting with Game Night next Friday, January 18, 2019 from 6:30-8:30 pm in the MP room. This event is free. The game is BINGO and there are prizes for winners. There will be pizza and baked goods for sale as well as a hot cocoa bar with all proceeds going to 5th grade Science Camp. Be sure to come early because items are only available while supplies last. If you have a prize item you would like to donate, please let us know! bcepc.execs@gmail.com

Our next school event to prepare for is the Family Dance on Friday, February 15 from 6-8 pm. There will be drinks and baked goods for sale with profits to benefit 5th grade Science Camp. We had a dance last year and it was a huge success! We will need chaperones as well as people to help decorate, set-up and clean-up. Email us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com

Box tops collections are paying off! We recently received a check for $815! All profits go towards new PE equipment. The next box top deadline is Thursday January 31. Remember the winning class gets a prize!

Shop Amazon Smiles: As you do your shopping, remember to shop Amazon Smiles, it is another easy way you can help earn money for the school. Simply go to smile.amazon.com and choose Boulder Creek Elementary Parent Club as your beneficiary. Then every time you shop a small amount goes to our school. You must shop Amazon Smiles for the school to benefit from your Amazon order.  It is not applicable from the phone app.  We have raised $1,915.15 as of October 2018 so keep up the shopping!

Shop Shutterfly: Our Shutterfly storefront BCEParentsClub.ShutterflyStorefront.com has changed from 13% return to 9%.  This is a year-round fundraiser, so even though it seems small it does add up.  Feel free to share this with all your friends and family.  The more people who purchase, the more we earn for BCE!
