Dear BCE Families,

BCE’s Holiday Gift Shift ~ Please mark your calendar for the annual BCE Gift Shift, on Friday, December 14, 12:30 - 6:00. We will be collecting gently used toys, books, videos, and video games; however, we do not accept clothing items.  This year we will also have a section with items suitable for children to give to adults.  Donations can be delivered to the BCE office until set up on Thursday, December 13.

Congratulations! ~ Congratulations are in order for 3rd graders Lola Booth and Sofia Diaz.  Lola placed 2nd and Sofia placed 3rd in their grade category for the artwork that they created to support the theme of Clean Heat – Clear Skies.  The Valley Women’s Club, in conjunction with the Monterey Bay Air Resource District, sponsored the art contest with a very important message.  Congratulations girls!  We are so proud of you and appreciate your work to support clean air for the health of our Valley residents.

Please Vote ~ Our School Site Council plays an important role at BCE by helping to develop our School Plan.  Please click here and vote for 5 candidates.  Thank you!

SARC ~ Just a reminder that our School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is available in hard copy form in our office or you can click here and view the document.

Canned Food Drive ~ The Valley Christmas Project Canned Food Drive is off and running.  Please send in your non-perishable donations to help support families in our community.  This is a great opportunity for our children to discover the good feeling we receive when we do good things for others.

Support ~ Thank you for your support as we maneuver our way through the holiday season.  Holidays can be an amazing and magical time of the year and they can also be tiring and stressful. With two weeks of school left, please keep their routine to as close to normal as possible, make sure they have plenty of sleep, and their diet is healthy and low in sugar.  Our amazing teachers still have a lot of learning planned for your students and we want our BCE Bears ready to do their important work!  Thank you.

Science Fair ~ Just a reminder that the BCE Science Fair will be taking place January 23 – January 25 2019.  All students from kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate. For more information contact Karen Hoogner at 831-703-4750 /, or Patty Hayes (BCE Science Teacher) at

“Through perseverance, many people win success out of what seemed destined to be certain failure.”

~Benjamin Disraeli

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
