Dear BCE Families,

Spring Break ~ Just a reminder that next week is Spring Break.  I hope you all are able to enjoy some extra time with your amazing students and we’ll see you back at BCE on April 8.

Thank You! ~ On behalf of our entire staff I want to thank our Parent Club and all the families that participated in making Staff Appreciation week so special for us.  The decorated classrooms doors reminded the staff every morning as they arrived that they were entering a room where the families appreciated and supported them.  The daily treats were enjoyed by the entire staff and the lunch at Scopazzi’s was beyond compare!  Additionally, there were flowers, cards and gifts that surprised and delighted many staff members.  BCE is such a special place.  Thank you for this outpouring of love and support, it means so much to all of us!  We are so very lucky to be working with such amazing students and families.

Safety Reminder ~ Thank you all for your flexibility, support and patience during the road closures on Tuesday.  These unpredictable events are a reminder to us all of how important it is for us to have current contact information for you, make sure voicemail boxes aren’t full, and, if possible, to have the contact information for people who live in different areas of the valley who might be available to pick up your students if the need should arise. Your student’s safety is always one of our highest priorities.  Thank you.

New book ~ At our recognition assemblies this week, classes received their newest book about perseverance.  This month’s book is Flight School by Lita Judge. It’s the story of a persevering penguin determined to fly. Although little Penguin has the soul of an eagle, his body wasn’t built to soar.  But Penguin has an irrepressible spirit, and he adamantly follows his dreams to flip, flap, fly!

2019-20 School Calendar ~ Click here to view the 2019-2020 school calendar. Your student’s school attendance is one of the key markers for success. Thank you for planning family vacations that are aligned with the school calendar.

CAASPP Testing ~ We are fast approaching the time for State Testing for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.  Please read a letter, click here for English or here for Spanish, to find out more about CAASPP.  Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Families ~ Practice and Training Tests for 2018–19 Are Here! Exciting news for classroom teachers, parents, and students: CAASPP has updated its online Practice Tests and Training Tests, adding new items and passages.  This website is an easy and low stress way to explore the upcoming state test with your student.

Need Kindergarten? ~ Kindergarten registration for Fall 2019 is open. Visit the BCE office to pick up a registration packet and sign up for a spot to attend one of our two remaining Kindergarten orientations and tours. Tours will take place at 9 am on April 23 and May 17 and are for adults only. WAIT, WAIT, DON’T STOP! PLEASE CONTINUE READING TO SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND UPDATES FROM OUR AMAZING BCE PARENT CLUB!

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Thank you for turning in you Walk/ Jog pledges.  If you haven’t turned it in yet don’t worry, we will continue to collect after spring break!

Thank you to everyone for making staff appreciation week a success.  The staff really felt appreciated and it was a great way to head into Spring break!  Special thanks to the businesses who donated food including Jenna Sue’s Cafe and Treehouse Cafe.

URGENT YEARBOOK: We desperately need photo collage artists for 1st and 4th grade classrooms. If you are interested in putting together a photo collage for your child's classroom, please email tiff@tibre.org.

Download the TreeRing app and upload your pictures of your favorite school memories on your phone OR go to Treering.com and create your account using school code: 10152329238788. Download to Shared Pictures and choose the proper folder to make your pics available for yearbook. You can also download your child’s own personal memories for their personalized two pages in the yearbook. MARCH IS THE MONTH TO SUBMIT PICS. There are only about 100 pictures so far, so we need pics from walk jog, science fair, learning garden, 5th grade plays, spirit days, talent show and whatever else you have. The yearbook is what you make it. Please download your pictures ASAP.

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the “home” page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child’s school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
