February 8, 2019

Dear BCE Families,

No School ~ Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday as we celebrate President Lincoln’s birthday.

Urgent Safety Reminder ~ We had yet another incident of distracted driving around our school during the busy drop-off/pick-up time this week.  Not everyone reads the Bearmail or the class newsletter.  Please help us keep our students safe by starting a conversation in the community in general regarding paying attention when driving, during school times especially.  Thank you for your help.

Valentines Day ~ Thursday is Valentine’s Day.  Please remember that if your student brings Valentine cards for one student in the class, they need to bring cards for all the students in their class.  Valentine’s Day is not a day for hurt feelings and hearts.

Family Dance ~ I hope you are able to join us for our BCE Family Dance next Friday, February 15.  The Dance will be held in the MP room at BCE and will run from 6 pm-8 pm.  Please remember that this is a family dance and students MUST be accompanied by adults.  This is not an event where students can be dropped off and picked up later.  Additionally, while attending this fun event, please be sure your student is always within your sight.  Our campus is dark in the evening and we do not want unaccompanied students out alone in the dark.

Absences ~ If your student will be absent from school FOR ANY REASON, please call the BCE Attendance Line at 831-338-2887. Please call every day until your student returns and let us know how their recovery is going.

“In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins – not through strength, but by perseverance.”

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful 3-day weekend.

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

The Family Dance is on Friday, February 15 from 6-8 PM. There will be drinks and baked goods for sale with profits to benefit 5th grade Science Camp. We had a dance last year and it was a huge success! We will need chaperones as well as people to help decorate, set-up and clean-up. Email us at

Family Art Night is Wednesday February 20th.  Pizza is served from 5:30-6:00.  The 4 different workshops are 25 minutes long and include sections of dancing, drumming and 2 different visual arts projects.  The event goes until 8 PM.  If you are interested in volunteering, contact Kat at  If you have questions contact Ms. Egbert at

Campus Beautification will take place Sunday February 24 from 12 PM-3 PM.  This volunteer events helps us earn Disneyland tickets for our Silent Auction in May. The more volunteers the more tickets we earn. Make it a family event and have your children be apart of it!

Our monthly meeting was last night. For those of you who were unable to make it, we will have a Parent Club Meeting Recap on Wednesday, February 13 at 1:30 pm. It's early-out so join us on uppers, rain or shine, to hear about what was discussed, bring up your thoughts and ideas and meet new people. Our next monthly meeting will be TUESDAY, March 5th from 6-8 pm in the library. Babysitting provided.
