March 1, 2019
Dear BCE Families,
Talent Show ~ Thursday was our annual BCE Talent show and all I can say is WOW! What a talented group of students we have here! I was so impressed with their dedication and bravery. I’ve already heard some of the students planning their act for next year!
Read Across America aka Dr. Seuss Day ~ Oh the books that we read! Many of our classes today took some time to honor Dr. Seuss and his contribution to our love of books and reading. Several classes today enjoyed a special visit from our District SRO, Deputy Kris Koenig, who read my personal favorite, Green Eggs and Ham.
Internet Safety ~ Every week we seem to hear of a new internet game or challenge that is targeted to school age children. It is increasingly important to be vigilant about your student’s use of technology. Both the time spent on screens and the content of their online activity needs to be monitored closely. I’d like to recommend you visitcommonsensemedia.org. This independent, nonprofit organization is dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology.
Need Kindergarten? ~ Kindergarten registration for Fall 2019 is open. Visit the BCE office to pick up a registration packet and sign up for a spot to attend one of our three Kindergarten orientations and tours. Tours will take place at 9 am on March 29, April 23 and May 17 and are for adults only. To begin the registration process, please plan on bringing your child’s birth certificate, current immunization record and proof of residence. Questions? Call our Registrar Alma - 831-338-6413, or email her at email@example.com.
Children must be five years old by September 1 in order to enroll in Kindergarten. If your student has a September, October or November birthday you might be interested in our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program. For more information, please call Alma at the BCE office at 831-338-6413.
We’re looking forward to your student joining our BCE learning community!
Spring Picture Day ~ Just a reminder that Spring Picture Day is Tuesday and all students will have their picture taken. There is no need to send in order forms or money - you will receive a proof of the picture and can decide if you would like to purchase copies.
Campus Beautification ~ Thank you Amber Jones and our BCE Parent Club for organizing a successful Campus Beautification Day last Sunday. The weather was lovely, we had a great turn out and with everyone’s hard work, a lot was accomplished! Thank you to all who helped and supported our wonderful school!
Family Movie Night ~ I hope you are able to join us next Friday for another BCE Family Movie Night in the MP room. The doors will open 5:30 pm and the main feature, “Wreck–It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet” will begin promptly at 6 pm.
Need ~ We are in need of elastic waist pants (sizes 6 – 10) as well as underwear (especially boys) and socks.

The BCE Way: BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE
WAIT, WAIT, DON’T STOP! PLEASE CONTINUE READING TO SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND UPDATES FROM OUR AMAZING BCE PARENT CLUB!
This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.
The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.
Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the “home” page of the District website at www.slvusd.org. The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children. The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child’s school. The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
