Dear BCE Families,

Movie Night ~ I hope you can join me tonight as our own BCE Parent Club sponsors Family Movie Night!  The fun will begin at 6 pm with the showing of, Toy Story 4.  Admission is free and profits from concessions will support the 5th grade Science Camp Fund. River Dogs will be on sale from 3:30-5:45.

Halloween Parade ~ Our BCE Halloween Parade is scheduled for 9 am, Thursday October 31 on the upper playground.  Our BCE Bears will be making a big circle and one grade level at a time will walk in a smaller circle on the inside.  This will allow all our students to be able to see each other.  We ask that all adults please stay behind the outside ring.

Here are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.

New Kindness Book ~ All classes have received their new Kindness book!  This month’s selection is Each Kindness, written by Jacqueline Woodson.  It is the story of a teacher who gives a lesson on how even small acts of kindness can change the world and one of her students who finds she has missed an opportunity to show kindness.

Board Briefing ~ Here is the latest SLVUSD board briefing.

Affordable Housing There will be an Affordable Housing Community Forum held on Saturday, October 26 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.  Click here for more details.

Encouraging Your Child’s Self-Esteem ~ Please read this flyer regarding a wonderful workshop being held at SLVE on November 7.

Lost and Found ~ Our lost and found pile has reached its maximum capacity!  Please take a look for any items that may belong to your student.  All items not claimed by TODAY will be donated to a local charity.  Thanks to Tanya Castro for putting in so much time to organizing the lost and found and trying to unite students with their lost belongings.

Halloween Costumes ~ As Halloween approaches, I know many students are already planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.  If you are unsure, please contact your child’s teacher or the office before purchasing the costume

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
