Dear BCE Families,

Reminder ~ Just as a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL next Friday, 2/1/19. Our amazing teachers will be participating in professional development to grow their expertise in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Science Fair ~ What a delight it was to tour our Science Fair yesterday!  I was so proud of all the students who participated.  I witnessed high levels of questioning, organization and perseverance.  I appreciated the attention to detail and the pride that was evident in their projects. Congratulations to all our participants and good luck to our students who will advance to the county completion.  A BIG thank you to Jacquie Spracklen, Karen Hoogner, and all of our adult volunteers.  We couldn’t do it without you!

Valentine’s Day ~ As February rolls in we start thinking about Valentine’s Day.  Please remember that if your student brings Valentine cards for 1 student in the class, they need to bring cards for all the students in their class.  Valentine’s Day is not a day for hurt feelings and hearts.

The BCE Way ~ Please ask your students to describe ways that they’ve demonstrated the BCE Way this week.  How did they show they were RESPONSIBLE, SAFE and RESPECTFUL?

Absences ~ If your student will be absent from school due to illness, please call the BCE Attendance Line at 831-338-2887. Please call every day until your student returns and let us know how their recovery is going.

Job Opening ~ SLVUSD is currently hiring for a Senior Custodian at San Lorenzo Valley Elementary (full-time) and a Maintenance Specialist-HVAC (full-time).  We are also looking to hire substitutes (part-time) for Student Nutrition Services.  If you are interested, you can download an application from the District website and submit it to the Human Resources Department at the District Office (325 Marion Ave, Ben Lomond).  You can also apply online at

Perseverance Quote of the Week :

“It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.”

~ Albert Einstein

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

Thank you to those of you who attended and helped with Game Night. It was a huge success and a good time was had by all! Special thanks to Tammy Schultz for emceeing the event and to Justin Acton of BC Pizza and Pub for donating the pizza! The fifth grade was able to raise $475 towards their science camp! Thank you very much for all your support.

The Family Dance is on Friday, February 15 from 6-8 PM. There will be drinks and baked goods for sale with profits to benefit 5th grade Science Camp. We had a dance last year and it was a huge success! We will need chaperones as well as people to help decorate, set-up and clean-up. Email us at

Mark your calendars!

The next Family Dinner Night is Thursday, January 31 at Tae’s Edo Sushi. It runs all day - lunch and dinner. A portion of the day’s profits will go to the 2nd grade. We are aware our signs on campus say for the Arts program. We have another fundraiser for that coming up in May. We apologize for our error.

Campus Beautification will take place Saturday February 2 from 9 AM-12 PM.  This volunteer events helps us earn Disneyland tickets for our Silent Auction in May. The more volunteers the more tickets we earn. Make it a family event and have your children be apart of it! (In the event of inclement weather the back-up date will be February 24).

Jenna Sue’s will be having a Family Coffee Day on Thursday, February 7 with a portion of the day’s profits to benefit 5th grade science camp. You can bring a drink, or a treat,  for your favorite staff member! Just ask to see the BCE staff spreadsheet! A huge thank you to Jenna Sue, and her staff, for holding this event!

Our next Parent Club meeting is Thursday, February 7, 6-8 PM in the library. Babysitting and light snacks provided. Come be a part of the fundraising efforts, event planning and school related discussions. For those of you who cannot make nightly meetings BCE Parent Club invites you to Parent Club Meeting Recap on Wednesday, February 13 at 1:30 pm. It’s early-out so join us on uppers, rain or shine to hear about what was discussed, bring up your thoughts and ideas and meet new people.

The next boxtop deadline is Thursday, January 31.  Remember the winning class gets a prize!
