Bear Mail 11/16/18

November 16, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Conferences Cancelled Today ~ You should all have received an automated phone call today letting you know that conferences had been cancelled due to the proximity of a house fire on Bear Creek Road.  Your conference will be rescheduled some time after the Thanksgiving break.  Thank you so much for your flexibility and patience.  If you did not receive a phone call, this means your online registration has not been completed.  As was demonstrated today, an emergency can occur at any time, which is why it is crucial for us to have the most up-to-date information for your student.  Please contact Alma Steinberg at asteinberg@slvusd.org, or 831-338-6413, if you need assistance with online registration.

Thanksgiving Holiday ~ Please remember that our Thanksgiving break begins Monday and there will be no school next week from 11/19 – 11/23.  I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving and I for one will be giving thanks for having the privilege of working with our amazing students, fabulous families, and sensational staff!

Looking Good! ~ Our BCE website will soon have a new look! The crossover to the new platform will be a work in progress; I want to thank you in advance for your patience.  Our new web page will closely resemble that of the other SLVUSD schools making navigating the websites easier as your student goes on to middle and then high school.

BCE’s Holiday Gift Shift ~ Please mark your calendar for the annual BCE Gift Shift, on Friday December 14, 12:30 - 6:00.  We will be collecting gently used toys, books, videos, and video games; however, we do not accept clothing items.  This year we will also have a section with items suitable for children to give to adults.  Donations can be delivered to the Office at Boulder Creek Elementary starting the week after Thanksgiving Vacation.  We will set up everything on Thursday, December 13.

Canned Food Drive ~ The Valley Christmas Project Canned Food Drive is up and running.  Please send in your non-perishable donations to help support families in our community.  This is a great opportunity for our children to discover the good feeling we receive when we do good things for others.

Holiday Bazaar ~ I hope you can join me on Saturday December 1 for a Holiday Bazaar and Arts & Crafts Fair sponsored by our wonderful BCE Parent Club.  All proceeds from this event will go towards BCE’s goal of becoming a Certified Green Organization. This special event will take place in BCE’s MP room beginning at 10 am and ending at 2 pm. I hope to see you there!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

WAIT, WAIT, DON’T STOP! PLEASE CONTINUE READING TO SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND UPDATES FROM OUR AMAZING BCE PARENT CLUB!

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
