Dear BCE Families,

Many Thanks ~ I want to thank the Gafford Family for coordinating a fun BCE Family Movie Night last week and I would also like to thank our BCE Parent Club for supporting our very successful Family Art Night on Wednesday.  A special shout out also goes to Ms. Egbert for doing much of the legwork to make this annual evening of art happen.

BCE is such an amazing community!  Thanks to the dedication and hard work of so many, we are lucky to have so many opportunities to bring our BCE families together.

Join Me! ~ I hope you are able to join me, and some of our amazing BCE families, this Sunday for BCE Campus Clean-up Day.  The fun starts at 12:00 and we’ll work until approximately 3:00 pm.  It would be great if you have gardening tools and/or gloves that you are able to bring.

Board Review ~ Please click here to read the latest SLVUSD Board Review.

Charter School Information ~ SLV Charter School Info night is coming up!  If you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about what the Charter school has to offer please come to the information night on Tuesday, March 12 from 6-7 pm at the SLV Middle School Library. There will also be an information night that is just for Nature Academy on Tuesday, March 19 from 6-7 pm at the SLV Middle School Library.  Meet the teachers!  Ask your questions!  Click here for information about the Charter program.  Click here for information about Nature Academy.

Lice Checks & Reporting ~  As we head into the warmer weather, we ask that parents please help by routinely checking your child's hair at least once a week. Identifying and treating a case early makes it significantly easier to manage. It is very important to report any known cases to our office staff. This allows us to identify trends and perform class checks to stop the spread. We continue to look for volunteers to join our Lice Buster Team. If you are interested in helping, please contact our district nurse Sarah Dahlen at

Update ~ The recent storms and power outages in our area are a reminder that having up-to-date emergency contact information for your students is critical. Please make sure we have current contact numbers for parents as well as additional adults authorized to pick up your student. Additionally, please make sure your voicemail box is not full and can accept new messages. These steps will allow us to keep your student safe and provide us the information needed to receive calls from us or the District about safety concerns or possible school closures. Contact Alma Steinberg at 831-338-6413,, to update information. Thank you for your support in this important matter.

Family Engagement Policy ~ Please find a copy of our BCE Parent and Family Engagement Policy here.  As a Title 1 school, this plan establishes the school’s expectations for parent and family engagement and describes how the school will implement a number of specific parent and family engagement activities, and it is incorporated into the school’s plan submitted to the district. Please let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to review this plan with you.

Need ~ We are in need of elastic waist pants (sizes 6 – 10) as well as underwear (especially boys) and socks.

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

Many other businesses, such as Wild Roots & Johnnie’s support us in donations for our big events such as Walk/Jog,  Silent Auction items, Staff Appreciation Week, Open House BBQ and Carnival. There are many others that are not on this list. Please thank these businesses for supporting B.C.E. when you patronize them.

We received our first check from Shutterfly for $56. Every bit helps!

Another company that has been supporting us all year is Wild Roots. When you purchase gift cards a portion of the profits go to our school. The employees also donate much needed supplies in the office such as kleenex & wipes.
